The Minuteman® Procedure from Spinal Simplicity

Back pain invades every facet of life. From your biggest moments to favorite hobbies and even day-to-day existence, persistent back pain casts a shadow over it all.

Renew Pain Solutions is proud to offer a wide range of effective back and neck treatments that relieve pain and enable you to do more of what you love.

At the same time, we know that every patient is different. What works well for others may not work for you. And when other treatments aren’t effective, Minuteman® could be the answer.

For some patients, the minimally invasive Minuteman® procedure is the doorway to life-changing pain relief when other solutions don’t work.

If you have back pain that hasn’t responded to other treatments, our team will keep exploring solutions — including new options like the Minuteman® device and procedure.

Back In The Game

A Promising Bridge Between Conservative Care and Invasive Surgery

The Minuteman® procedure is life-changing for some patients, but it isn’t for everyone — and it isn’t the first step in the treatment process.

Our goal is always achieving the best possible pain reduction with the least invasive treatment possible. Some patients respond to conservative care, which includes radiofrequency ablation, prescription pain medicine, and/or epidural steroid injections. Others find adequate relief through physical therapy or chiropractic care.

But when conservative approaches don’t produce the results a patient needs, we move up to more intensive options.

Minuteman is a less invasive outpatient surgical option that produces considerable pain relief for many patients. It’s a step worth considering before open spine surgery, as well as when open spine surgery isn’t an option.

Advantages of Minuteman® for Back Pain

The Minuteman® procedure offers numerous advantages for many patients suffering from chronic back pain.

  • Addresses actual causes of pain: Unlike medications and other interventions that simply mask pain, Minuteman stabilizes the spine, addressing the mechanical cause of pain.
  • Indirect decompression: By decompressing the spine indirectly, Minuteman avoids the more significant effects of open spine surgery.
  • Minimally invasive: The procedure requires just a small incision (1.5 inches maximum) and doesn’t involve stripping or dissecting the back muscles.
  • No hospital stay: The procedure is typically done as an outpatient procedure, so you can be home the same day.
  • Faster recovery time: Because the anatomy is left intact, recovery time is reduced compared to invasive spinal fusion surgery.
  • Promotes opioid reduction: By addressing mechanical causes of pain, Minuteman® reduces the need for opioids, promoting an overall strategy of opioid reduction.

Signs Minuteman® May Be Right for You

The Minuteman® procedure relieves pain associated with certain conditions. You’ll need an office consultation and likely imaging to know whether you’re a candidate, but these diagnostic questions can help point you in the right direction.

  • Relief when leaning forward: If you feel better when leaning forward (such as when you’re leaning over the handle of your shopping cart), you may have spinal stenosis, and Minuteman may be the solution.
  • Pain after sitting: If your pain increases after you’ve been sitting for a while or you frequently feel the need to get up and walk to avoid pain, then you may have a condition for which Minuteman is indicated.
  • Tingling and heaviness: If your legs tingle when you walk or feel too heavy after sitting, Minuteman may resolve your pain.

Conditions Addressed

Minuteman is an effective treatment for numerous forms of back pain. It’s FDA indicated for three conditions:

  • Degenerative disc disease (vertical instability)
  • Lumbar spinal stenosis (angular instability)
  • Spondylolisthesis (micromotion instability)

Not every patient with these diagnoses is a good candidate for Minuteman, and there may be other scenarios where a provider would recommend the procedure. The best way to learn whether Minuteman is right for you is to schedule a consultation with the Renew Pain Solutions Team.
